The Latest:

Characters, Clowns, Snitches & Bitches On These Modern Day Plantations Called Jobs!

When will you realize that you will never have peace of mind and financial security by working for someone else especially in corporate America? It’s the ultimate pyramid scam! They target your mind as soon as you are hired and work you up to a euphoric state making you feel as though you are covered with security for life and have a shot at going higher in the company.

The supervisors are all smiles (“ I am here to help you, my office is open to you anytime you need as I will never share what we speak between us to anyone!”) as they work their game on you, setting you up for the time when you realize it was all a sham and either want to quit, say or do something out of frustration that will get you fired, or remain quietly KNOWING the tricks that are being worked on your coworkers while you play dumb just to keep a mere job. Is this any way to live?

This type of atmosphere spawns the usual host of characters who want to get ahead and will anything to get there…. playing up to superiors who readily understand that this person can be used to THEIR advantage to safely finding out the gossip without notice.

You will always have the complainers who befriend you upon being hired, giving you freely as a new employee the “real deal” about working there… yet turns into a coward when it is time to step up and speak his/her mind publicly in company meetings etc. They only try to work you up to an angry frenzy about the “in house” corporate injustices so you can fight their battles and jump to the front line while they watch you get labeled the troublemaker making a well used idiot of yourself while they observe you while chuckling in complete safety.

How about the female who uses her sexuality to get her way and to even have an influence on who truly gets the promotions around the office? I mean, if she doesn’t like you or you piss her off, do you think the boss that she is sleeping with will favor you too? She IS privy to the inside knowledge, personality conflicts and can even subliminally threaten to reveal what she knows, further cementing her position in the company as an unofficial supervisor.

This list can go on forever, but do know that unless you slave for these establishments for years endlessly, you will go nowhere…even when you achieve your token position, you better walk on eggshells to keep it. You can get demoted at the slightest sign of being inept or ineffective. While others who are favored with the proper connections, complexion and butt-kissing attitude can damn near write their own schedule, break company rules and glide through with literally no stress what so ever.

It’s not about bringing your individual talents and abilities to the table to enhance the total company, NO! It’s about LEAVING your individual talents, abilities (and Blackness!) at the door as those traits are a threat if management wants you to fit in to an already unfair system and hostile working environment. Want to be a supervisor? Well you better fit the profile of what they want… nine times out of ten it is not what you do to get the position, it’s if you fit in to the twisted situation that you are now a part of. It is decided walking through the door on your first few days if you will ever hold a powerless “name/title only” position there.

A word to the wise: If you want to hold on to your job, do NOT speak your mind if it’s against the grain, do NOT tell it like it truly is. You are now walking that thin fine line and you have to watch yourself and what your perception is no matter how secure you think you are there. Management can always find another enthusiastic fool in NO time flat to replace you. To think otherwise would set you up for a very rude awakening. If you are not echoing what THEY tell you is reality and diplomatically avoiding the controversial work issues, you will not remain there for too long.

Can I get an amen?

I would LOVE to hear YOUR experiences on this topic!

This reminds me of a training session I went to at my place of work earlier this year. The instructor sarcastically said that someone told him that if you want to make it in this business, you have to be lazy and “pretend” like you don’t know how to do the work…then you will get promoted…if you don’t, you will be kept in the same position because you’re doing “a good job”. I sat there surprised but when I reflected on my 10 and 1/2 years at the same agency, (I work for a public relations government department), it dawned on me on how right whomever that person is/was that told him that! I’ve actually had a promotion snatched away from me. And to add insult to injury, I’ve been doing the same functions for the past 4 years. I am the type of person that likes to speak her mind…but at the workplace…I learned the hard way to keep quiet. Lance you get a double Amen from me!
