Lupe Fiasco Shows That Saggin’ Isn’t The Only Way To Show Your Dumb Black Ass!

There is a time and place for everything and I am quite sure Rapper/Lyricist/Artist Lupe Fiasco understood this as he showed his ass at the most inopportune of times in front of the nation right before President Barack Obama’s Inauguration Ceremonies.

Lupe Fiasco

Here is the full story written by Loran Moraski for on January 21, 2013 the morning after the event:

Security pulled rapper Lupe Fiasco off stage Sunday in the middle of his performance at StartUp RockOn’s inauguration event Sunday night at The Hamilton in Washington.

Video shows that Fiasco was in the midst of his anti-war song, “Words I Never Said,” when he criticized President Barack Obama, saying he didn’t vote for him.

“Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist,” the 30-year-old Chicago rapper said during his headlining performance. “Gaza Strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say [expletive]. That’s why I ain’t vote for him, next one either.”

According to The Washington Post, about 30 minutes into the song, guards showed up to escort him off the stage.

“Lupe Fiasco just got thrown off stage here at the Hamilton Live after he went on an anti-Obama diatribe mid set,” tweeted Josh Rogin of  Foreign Policy. According to Rogin, Fiasco was asked to move on to the next song, but when he refused “a team of security guards came on stage and told him to go.”

HyperVocal, a company backing StartUp RockOn, tweeted, “Disappointed that an artist took opportunity to use an event celebrating innovation/startups to make a political statement.”

But that’s not the story that was conveyed early Monday morning, according to a statement released by StartUp RockOn: “Lupe Fiasco performed at this private event, and as you may have read, he left the stage earlier than we had planned. But Lupe Fiasco was not ‘kicked off stage’ for an ‘anti-Obama rant.’ We are staunch supporters of free speech, and free political speech. This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act.”

“The party continued as planned, and we celebrated the announcement of CodeNow’s winning the Grant Challenge. CodeNow is a non-profit startup based in Washington DC that teaches underrepresented high school students basic skills in computer programming.”

I mean, you blow a shot at such a mainstream audience to come off like a fool when in fact you do have an immense talent and could have lured in more fans and reach over the long haul by going to the line at this performance and running with your heightened popularity on your own time and performances as an artist!

Lupe Fiasco is already “out there” as an artist but to ruin a chance to go to another level like this will only doom him to stay at the level that he is because no other promoter would want to deal with him other than those who already have within his niche.

It’s like this, timing is everything. You don’t wait to slam dunk a basketball long after you’ve passed the basket in your jump.

You don’t swing for your opponents chin with a knockout blow from across the ring where you are nowhere near your target.

…….and as a Quarterback you don’t throw the football in the Superbowl to a part of the field that is not populated with the players from your team and expect a touchdown.

It doesn’t work that way.

Is LanceScurv softening up in his old age? NO! I’ve gotten smarter!

Public Enemy

While at one time I may have been guilty of not holding my fiery words for the right time, this was something that even Stevie Wonder could see was a wrong move!

This is why I love Public Enemy so much. They are entertaining but they laced their music with such a balance of intelligence and passion that intrigued even their most staunchest of naysayers. You HAD to respect their formula and I don’t think they would have been so foolish as to come off like a fool to do what Lupe Fiasco did!

You pick your shots as a conscious outspoken performer and this wasn’t the time to do what he did.

When I really think about it I have to say that I am not against the content of Lupe’s presentation as I have a lot of questions of my own about the conflicting actions in the Obama Cabinet, but Lupe Fiasco was thrown a bone this time and could have really won over a new breed of fan if he didn’t act out like he did.

What made it worse was that he got up there and claimed that he didn’t even vote! Now if you’ve forfeited that right it IS your right to do so but don’t get up there pissed off at the President when in fact you had no participation in the process that put him there!

That’s like going to the restaurant with someone who is treating you to dinner and complaining about the dish you received after telling the person who was so kind to buy it for you that they should pick what it is that you are going to eat! Don’t complain now! You HAD a choice!

Lupe Fiasco is a brilliant, conscious entertainer that I feel never really got his just due thus far but on this night the person that I hold in such high regard was a no show that night.

When fighting the powerful forces of the mainstream media that appears to have an agenda that thrives on the “dumbing down” of the masses for the benefit of a few, you have to be shrewd enough to understand your enemy and be able to get close enough to those to whom you want to set free because this is truly a war for their minds, bodies and souls.

So you as an artist cannot give the powers that be any excuse to dismiss the creative efforts that are spoken into your soul on a divine level to be smeared because your method of bringing them forth were mistimed and misunderstood. So while the title infers that I feel that Lupe Fiasco is dumb, it merely means that his timing wasn’t the smartest as I once again feel that he has the potential to really reach a lot of our youth that has been lost, forgotten and abandoned, left to be devoured as fodder for a system who cares not about their true development as independent productive citizens of this world.

In the mega-fight to spread consciousness to the world this was a bad round for you Lupe Fiasco, let’s take a few seconds to brush it off and come back stronger for the next round so we can go for the knockout!

Peace & Righteous Love Always,

Your REAL Brother,
