If you have been following the content on this platform, you already know that I have relocated out of the United States and into Ghana, West Africa. I would say that in comparison to many of the other experiences that I have witnessed of others who have left the United States to move here to the motherland, that my transition was fairly easy as I didn’t go through any culture shock on any major level. Yes, there have been some minor adjustments to understand how things are done in this country that is new to me and how I am received as a foreigner and personally perceived.
That being said, there are many amusing realizations that I’ve come to know over time in my new home.
Human nature, no matter where you go on this planet is in full effect no matter what the culture, race or dominant religion. This thing called human nature is literally the same anywhere you go in this world even though it may be cloaked in cultural differences.
While I can go on forever on the vast experiences that have always brought a smile to my face, I could also speak on a few unpleasant or rather uncomfortable experiences that have truly opened my eyes. I would not have enough time to speak on all of them so in each article that I write about my transition from the United States to Ghana, I will go in on each topic with surgical precision as I always do.
As a person who is on social media frequently because of my position as a full-time constant creator – who is retired and has lots of time to enjoy my hobby – I use social media as leverage for the distribution of my content and nothing more.
So while I am sharing my content I received lots of feedback and interaction with individuals from all over the world. Now that I am in Africa my algorithms have changed greatly as opposed to when I lived in the United States. I have been on most major social media platforms since their inception and have recently explored using the TikTok social media platform for sharing segments of my work in order to bring all interested parties back to my website LanceScurv.com.
But I have discovered on TikTok, a very disturbing practice that is not relegated to just Ghana or the Motherland in general but all over the world.
But there are certain factors that have made the situation far more volatile here than in America, so let me explain these seemingly unrelated variables.
We have here in Ghana a large population of youth who do not have the opportunities for education and financial growth in the near future that many other countries have for their youth. There are a lack of employment opportunities for most of the youth here in Ghana and it appears that they are the forgotten population. On the surface, Christianity and Islam do not ease the urgency of the youth that are getting restless as religion has not answered the need for education and increased skillset programs that would protect them from falling into doing things that are not proper either legally or morally.
So because of the disciplines of religion and the moral standards that are taught – which are very good things – it still doesn’t answer the problem of what our youth here in Ghana are going to do to transition into adulthood in a manner that they can sustain themselves independently and gainfully.
Allow me to go through each one of these contributing factors so that we can see why this dangerous epidemic is now happening. I will admit that I am purposely not revealing what this problem is until you understand these dangerous factors.
FACTOR NUMBER ONE) OUR YOUTH HAVE TOO MUCH IDLE TIME:
As I mentioned before, our youth here in Ghana have too much idle time on their hands at their age with the juice of youth running through their veins with a high level of curiosity as to what is happening in the world and the willingness to want to explore the world but unable to. It can be very frustrating when you do not have the resources, the programs and the attention at home to guide you because your family has to work extra hours in a bad economy to make ends meet while leaving our youth unsupervised with so much time on their hands.
FACTOR NUMBER TWO) THE DESPERATE NEED FOR MONEY:
We tend to overlook the fact that our youth need money also. But because it is not on the scale of what an adult may deem significant when compared to the absolute necessities, many feel that their children’s monetary needs and desires are irrelevant and often dismissed. But peer pressure is real even in a time when the economic situation here in Ghana is truly distressed. Many parents do not have the financial resources to give their children an allowance for the small things that they may need and want. This scenario creates a massive frustration to further cause our youth and especially our young daughters who are coming into womanhood to try to figure out how can they get money in their hands for the smaller things that they desire. Sure, what they crave may not be a necessity or even a life and death situation but when you are young and would like to even have transportation money to go to an event or to wear an outfit that is new, the pressure and frustration that they feel can be very crushing.
FACTOR NUMBER THREE) THE EASY ACCESS TO SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS:
When you combine the fact that our youth have lots of idle time and may have very little money at their disposal, it’s almost guaranteed that the comparatively inexpensive cost of keeping their Internet data plans topped off – as there is no unlimited monthly plans here in Ghana, only pay as you go -to help to soothe the pain of not having all of the money that they want to do the things that they want to do. If there were more opportunities for work where they can earn something more than nothing, things would balance out a little better. But the frustration and lack of opportunities will drive our young teenagers into the world of social media and into the lap of the seductive traps that are readily awaiting them in abundance to target their young inexperienced minds.
FACTOR NUMBER FOUR) THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH COUNTLESS STRANGERS WHOSE INTENTIONS MAY NOT BE SO HONORABLE
While many parents feel that as long as their teenage daughters are safe at home away from the clutches and influence of child predators they need to think twice. Many parents, in order to reduce the frustration in their teenage girls will actually purchase a smart phone – even if it’s not one that’s top-of-the-line – to pacify the pain and frustration from a lack of gainful opportunities for employment and further education. This is a recipe for disaster because they can now communicate with strangers who may offer money as a lure to get these young girls away and alone for whatever their twisted minds desire.
Many of these young girls after a time will get very tired of not having money and put two and two together and come up with ways how they can utilize their now budding bodies in order to entice these older men who they feel will give them money in exchange for sexual favors on a scale of one to 10.
While I can add several more factors in, this has created an unseen source of revenue not only to maintain their phones and the data necessary to have access to the Internet, but to use the Internet to get on platforms like TikToc and Instagram to get money ranging from the mild visual titillation of male strangers to outright prostitution.
What else could be when you see many young daughters on the social media platforms wearing very seductive scantily clad outfits almost to the point of total nudity. They always share a 360° degree of a turnaround to show the natural curvature and forbidden beauty of their often underaged bodies and backside that should remain under wraps until they find himself in a committed relationship preferably in marriage.
With an overabundance of perverse men who are addicted to social media because of the availability of these young girls who are more than willing for a little bit of cash to trade in their innocence in order for them to accrue more material goods. Don’t forget that this is done in the safety of their bedroom with their parents present a few mere feet away behind a closed and often locked bedroom door.
As a social media content creator who produces content – as the feeling hits me – I am online sporadically all day which gives the impression that the body work that I have that I am someone of great means, because the perception is when you are a foreigner in Ghana and an older man you are an easy mark to be seduced and will give them the money that they feel you have an abundance.
Therefore, I can tell you from personal experience that I am bombarded with the seductive videos that are not made for the public but are uploaded privately and sent to me in order to truly seduce me and created to cause me to get caught up with lusty thoughts which make it easier for me to reach my hand in my pocket and negotiate with these girls.
What they don’t realize is that not every man thinks this way, not every man is in pursuit of such low vibrational improper endeavors and that every man is not a pervert who desires children. In Ghana alone I couldn’t begin to approximate the amount of young girls who are in church by day and virtual cyber-whores by night. We have the system here called Mobile Money a.k.a. Momo, where funds are instantly transferred simply by the use of one’s phone number. So one of these young girls can titillate a man with conversation, live interaction and phone calls but demand that in order to do so the man must send the requested amount of money in order to continue on with their interaction.
This alone desensitizes those young daughters to the dangers and risks of what eventually can happen when the phone transactions through video and phone calls and pictures are not enough.
As the saying goes the more you get the more you want.
So now the desire for these young girls have become more extravagant, making the money needs an ever pressing concern in order to keep up with this newfound illusion of a lifestyle that’s temporary at best.
They’re exposed to the lifestyles of those in other countries like the United States and/or the United Kingdom to name a few. Now their materialistic standards have gone up as far as their cravings for expensive clothes, jewelry and dining in fine restaurants. So now they’re willing to risk even more to get that money by meeting with these men for various sexual activities that not only put them in physical harm, because now they’re dealing with a stranger who they don’t know but they’re putting themselves at risk for a vast amount of sexually transmitted diseases many of which are now fatal.
I also have to mention that we have many covert sex trafficking rings that will use the attraction of money directly on social media and what may seem to be an innocent way to lure these young ladies into eventually kidnapping them after gaining the confidence to ship them to other countries when they are used as sex slaves.
A dangerous prospect indeed.
Here in Africa, especially in the villages far away from the big cities, there are many young children who may not have the documentation or the identification to check them if they go missing. The human traffickers as well as the individual child molesters know this and we have a situation where many young girls have gone missing. Someone really needs to talk about this who has the power to intervene to stop this vicious cycle.
Parents you must be aware that the children – especially the young girls – were touched by this demonic desire which came out of an innocent need to learn a skill, to earn their keep to gain a sense of esteem in their life and to develop a unique personal identity that separates them from their peers to feel appreciated.
Understand that even if you monitor their phones for the TikTok or Instagram profiles, they can easily have another inexpensive phone that they go out and buy independently after utilizing that original phone that made money in the aforementioned ways. The bad part about this is that many parents and family members find out about this activity far too late.
If you see that your young daughter is preoccupied with her phone and locked in her room for many hours, we need to investigate as well as looking into it before this happens. If you find your young daughter with new outfits that she says belongs to a friend but she always has in her possession, you need to be investigating as it is very suspicious because she didn’t get it for free. If you find your young daughter taking sporadic walks to her so-called friend’s house where you find she never went to, that’s a sign that she might be meeting up with individuals that you do not approve of because of the age difference of a grown man with a young girl which is a recipe for disaster.
Understand that frustration can drive anyone to do things that they would not normally do, let us try to make things better for our children. This way they are occupied and activities that make them feel good about themselves and ridding them of the frustration of inactivity as well as the feeling that they are not moving along progressively in order to build a great sense of self-esteem.
I hope that all who have read my words understand the spirit in which I speak and do know that this is not just a problem in Ghana West Africa, but this is also a global issue that we must address. The many factors that go into making this an unfortunate perfect storm of decadence must be dismantled and put away so that the temptation to go deeper into the very deadly rabbit hole of these activities will cease and desist.
As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure…….
